The senior process engineer will be part of a corporate development and engineering team, responsible for working with USARE’s executives, internal technical experts, and external engineering providers to assimilate integrated engineering and financial analysis for our metals & magnets production facilities. The role will require the engineer to develop solutions in all areas of the process plant across various systems, work with the Chief Commercial Officer on supply chain and offtake agreements, integrate unit operations and process equipment, as well as support executive financial analysis.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate with full competence and independence in the execution of all design calculations, design criteria, in the compilation and execution of equipment lists and calculations. Develop new criteria/calculations where required, maintaining high levels of accuracy. Provide frequent training, guidance and supervision to junior colleagues.

  • Provide process design requirements to designers, and assist in plant commissioning for metals, battery material, and rare earths.

  • Identify, scope and manage process test work (on site or laboratory based).

  • Define the process design criteria and compile Process Flow Diagrams, along with associated mass and energy balance calculations.

  • Perform process engineering tasks on pyrometallurgical projects in a variety of commodities.

  • Act as Lead Process Engineer on projects or studies. Assist in feasibility studies and detailed design for metals (particularly lithium, rare earths and other battery material related projects).

  • Prepare design calculations and documentation and development of mass balance models in simulation software (METSIM, SysCAD, IDEAS).

  • Prepare specifications of process attributes for equipment, through compilation of process datasheets (or process input to general datasheets).

  • Design of the process control logic adhering to appropriate safety standards, and documentation into Functional Descriptions.

  • Compile operating cost estimates including estimation of consumables, labor, maintenance materials and power.

Who You Are

  • A highly motivated professional with a Chemical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering degree

  • 7-10 years of experience in the design, commissioning, and/or operational experience of pyrometallurgical equipment (AC/DC furnaces, converters, kilns, calciners, roasters, etc)

  • Experience in modelling of pyrometallurgical equipment and systems (Metsim or other software)

  • Extremely strong project management and engineering version control management skills

  • Strong financial and operational focus

  • Ability to lead processing engineering tasks on a project, within the allocated budget and schedule, including mentoring and guidance of junior colleagues and professional interaction with other project disciplines.

  • Process experience in an engineering contracting environment or consultancy organizations in the metallurgical industry ideal. Experience in the design and operation of hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy processes for metals will be highly regarded, as will operational experience.

  • Recognized publications in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering or applied science a plus.
