
Grant Smith is Chairman and majority shareholder of Less Common Metals, the USAR subsidiary producing rare earth metals and alloys. He acquired LCM in late 2015 and provides strategic leadership and long-term direction, leveraging more than four decades of experience in the global minerals industry. His career began in 1980 in the Australian coal sector and has expanded to include production, marketing, and international trade across coal, uranium, garnet, iron oxide, barite, silica sand, and other industrial minerals.
Smith’s expertise spans the full mineral value chain, with extensive experience managing complex supply chains and long-standing partnerships with leading producers and multinational customers in pulp and paper, ceramics and glass, polymers, and coatings. He is recognized for deep technical knowledge, commercial insight, and a practical approach to building durable mineral supply chains.
